For about a decade I kept trying to build a career somewhere other than music, all while music kept being the only part of my life that held. Jobs came and went, I suffered a serious ankle injury, and a long job search ended in nothing. Through all of it I was still playing, still making tracks, and still thinking about music more than anything I was actually being paid to do. In 2025 I stopped waiting for a callback and bet on myself instead, and David Wright Music is what came out of that decision.
For a long time I tried to build a life around something other than music, and none of it ever quite worked. Jobs stalled out, plans fell through, and opportunities that looked solid on paper had a way of quietly evaporating.
I'd never had a good run in corporate. I didn't like working for someone else, and none of the jobs I'd had actually felt like mine. Yet, in 2024, when I was laid off from my marketing role, I immediately sought a new corporate job for the sake of "stability" and with the hopes there was a better opportunity for me. A year and a half went by, and nothing came of it.
It was that silence, more than anything else, that finally made me take the hint and connect the dots in my life. I began to realize that the one thing that never stopped through any of my career or life struggles was music. I kept taking gigs when they came up, and people around me consistently asked about my music career and questioned why I wasn't taking it more seriously. "That's such a cool job," "I'm sure you're great at it," or "when can I see you perform" were consistent conversation topics with my peers. This, combined with my eternal battle with corporate and working for others, made me decide to bet on myself.
In 2025 I stopped waiting on the job search and walked away from corporate work for good. I already knew what I wanted to be doing. I'd just never let myself commit to it, and David Wright Music is what came from finally saying yes.
What am I trying to build?
I'm not necessarily chasing a headline slot or social media fame (although those things would be great). What I'm actually interested in is something narrower, and probably more useful: community, education, and culture. That means building frameworks that make the craft learnable, writing honestly about where music is going, and putting together a place where a DJ six months in and a DJ six years in can both find something worth their time. If bookings and recognition come along with that, great. I'll let the cards fall where they may.

FAQ
How long have you been DJing? Since 2018. I left the company I was DJing for in 2022, and put my full focus on David Wright Music in 2025.
Do you produce as well as DJ? Yes, and it actually came first. Production is still core to what I do, alongside DJing.
What kind of music do you play? It's shifted a lot over the years, enough that it's a whole post on its own. The short version is that I came up on hip-hop and these days I'm playing something broader and more global, because curation matters more to me than genre labels.
